MadiCam Privacy Policy

Effective date: 23 September 2026

This policy covers both the MadiCam iOS app and the website at madi.cam.

MadiCam is an underwater camera app for iPhone, made by Rafael Pagés, an independent developer based in Madrid, Spain. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use the app and visit madi.cam.

The short version

MadiCam does not collect your personal data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking in the app. Your photos and videos stay on your device and in your own Photos library. We never see them.

What the app accesses, and why

MadiCam asks for a few permissions so it can work. Everything it accesses stays on your iPhone unless you choose to share it.

• Camera. Used to take photos and record video. Required for the app to work.
• Photos (add only). Used to save your captures to your Photos library. Requested at first launch.
• Photos (full access). Only requested the first time you open the in-app gallery, so MadiCam can show your dives back to you, keep them in a MadiCam album and apply colour correction. If you never open the gallery, this permission is never requested.
• Microphone. Off by default. Only requested if you turn Audio on in settings, and only used to record sound with your videos.
• Location (while using the app). Off by default. Only requested if you turn Tag location on in settings. MadiCam takes a position at the surface and writes it into the metadata of your photos and videos, the same way the built-in Camera app does. MadiCam never requests location access in the background.

When location tagging is on, the app may ask Apple's mapping service to turn coordinates into a place name (for example, the name of a dive site or town) for display in the gallery. That request goes to Apple, not to us, and is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy. The resulting place names are cached on your device.

A note on sharing. If location tagging is on, your photos and videos contain the GPS coordinates of where you entered the water. If you share those files, the location goes with them. You can turn tagging off at any time in settings, or remove location when sharing from the iOS share sheet.

Purchases and the free trial

MadiCam is free to download with a one-time purchase to unlock it. Purchases are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive your name, email, or payment details. Apple shares only anonymous, aggregated sales information with developers.

To keep the free trial fair across reinstalls, the app stores the date of your first capture in your own iCloud account using Apple's iCloud key-value storage. This value is stored in your iCloud, is not linked to your identity on our side, and we cannot access it.

Data we collect

None, through the app. MadiCam has no servers, no analytics SDKs and no third-party tracking code.

Apple may provide us with aggregated, anonymous information such as download counts and crash reports, if you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone settings (Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements). You can turn this off at any time.

The website

madi.cam is hosted by GitHub Pages. Like most web hosts, they may process technical information such as your IP address and browser type in server logs, to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. The website does not currently use cookies, analytics or tracking.

Contacting us

If you email us for support, we will use your email address and whatever you include in your message only to reply to you. We do not add you to mailing lists or share your email with anyone. You can ask us to delete your correspondence at any time.

Children

MadiCam is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone.

Your rights

Because we do not collect personal data through the app, there is generally nothing held by us to access, correct or delete. If you have emailed us, you can ask for a copy or deletion of that correspondence by writing to madicam@rafapages.com. If you are in the EU, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your data protection authority; in Spain this is the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (aepd.es).

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes (for example, if we add analytics to the website or app), we will update it at madi.cam/privacy and change the effective date above. We will not start collecting data in the app without updating this policy first.
